Patek Philippe 5738R Remake: Classic Style Golden Ellipse How Good Are They?

Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to recreate a Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse watch for a while now, specifically the 5738R model. It’s a classic style, and I figured it’d be a fun project to try and replicate. I’m not trying to sell it or anything, just a personal project to see if I could do it.

First off, I started by gathering a bunch of pictures and info about the watch. I spent hours just looking at it from different angles, trying to get a good feel for its size and shape. The Golden Ellipse is known for its, well, elliptical shape, so I knew getting that right would be super important.

Next, I started messing around with some design software. I am not good at design, but I tried to draw the case. I kept tweaking and adjusting until I had something that looked pretty close to the real thing. I also had to figure out the dimensions. The 5738R is the “grande-taille” version, so it’s a bit bigger than the older models. I used the info that said this model is a new large-sized one.

After I had the basic shape down, I started working on the dial. This particular model has a really clean, simple dial with just the hour and minute hands. I tried different shades of colors to get that deep blue color just right. Then I made the hour markers. I had a ton of pictures, I found some are very helpful.

The next big challenge was the strap. The real 5738R has this beautiful chain-style bracelet, and I really wanted to replicate that. I found the information that it’s a new large-sized Golden Ellipse with a chain-style bracelet. I spent days just trying to design each individual link. It was a pain, but I eventually got it to a point where I was happy with it.

  • Gather reference images and information. I did this first, it is important.
  • Design the case shape. Using some simple design software to draw and adjust the elliptical shape.
  • Create the dial. Choosing the right color and style.
  • Design the bracelet. This was the hardest part, trying to replicate the chain-style links.

Finally, I put all the pieces together. I kept making small adjustments here and there, comparing it to the pictures of the real watch. It took me a while, but I finally got to a point where I felt like I had a pretty good digital replica of the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R.

It’s definitely not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot about watch design in the process. I just want to share this experience with you guys, hope you enjoy it.
