Alright, folks, gather ’round, let me tell you about this little project I’ve been messing with. I’ve always been a fan of those fancy Patek Philippe watches, especially the Nautilus 5712. But let’s be real, those things are way out of my budget. So, I thought, why not try to build my own online store that selling this kind of watch? It is just for fun and training my skills, you know.
First things first, I started to research about the watch itself. I’ve spent some time lurking around on Chrono24, a website that sells expensive watches, just to get a feel for the prices. I saw that a Patek Philippe ref. 5712 could easily go for around $85,000, and even the 5712G-001 model was about $82,000. Crazy, right? But it gave me a good idea of what I was dealing with, making me more careful about this.
Next, I started planning out my online store. I figured I’d need a cool and clean design that reflects the luxury of the watch. I started sketching out some basic layouts on paper, where to put the pictures, the description, the price, all that stuff, I just write them down on my notebook, it looks like a mass, haha.
Once I had a general idea of the design, I started building the website. Now, I’m not a professional web developer or anything, but I know my way around basic HTML and CSS. I found a free website template online and started customizing it. I wanted to keep it simple, with a white background and some nice, big pictures of the watch. Just tried my best to do it.
The hardest part was probably getting good pictures of the watch. Obviously, I don’t have a real 5712 lying around, so I had to find some high-quality images online. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy! But eventually, I found some decent ones that I could use, then I download them to my computer, and started to deal with them.
After I got the pictures sorted, I started adding the product descriptions. I tried to make them sound fancy, like the kind of language you’d see on a real luxury watch website, using Chatgpt for help, lol.
I also had to figure out the pricing. I decided to just go with the prices I saw on Chrono24, just for the sake of realism. I know, I know, it’s all pretend, but I wanted it to feel as authentic as possible.
Finally, after a lot of tweaking and testing, I had my online store up and running! It was a simple website, just one page, with pictures of the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712 and 5712G-001, the descriptions, and the prices. It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty proud of it. I think I made it.
