Okay, so, I got this crazy idea the other day. I wanted to try and remake a Patek Philippe watch. Yeah, I know, it sounds nuts, but hear me out. Not just any Patek Philippe, but the Gondolo 7042/100G-010. It’s a real looker, you know?
First off, I started digging around for info on this watch. I mean, where do you even start with something like this? I spent hours online, reading articles, watching videos, you name it. I was trying to get a feel for what makes this watch tick, literally.
Getting the Parts
Then came the fun part – finding the parts. I’m not exactly rolling in dough, so I had to get creative. I hit up some online stores, and checked out a few shops in person. It took a while, but I finally managed to get all the bits and pieces I needed. I got a decent white gold case, it’s not the real deal but it looks pretty close. The hardest part was the movement. I had to settle for something similar, not the exact one, but hey, it’s a remake, right?
Putting it All Together
Next up, assembly. This was the real test. I laid out all the parts on my workbench, took a deep breath, and got to work. I had to be super careful, especially with the tiny screws and the delicate hands. My hands were shaking like a leaf! There were a couple of times I thought I’d messed it up for good. I almost threw the thing across the room! But I kept at it, following the guides I’d found online as best as I could.
- Day 1: Started with the case, and that went smoothly.
- Day 2: Worked on the movement, which was a pain.
- Day 3: Got the dial and hands on, and it started to look like a watch!
- Day 4: Added the strap and did some final touches.
- Day 5: Fixing the errors from the previous days.
After what felt like forever, it was done. I had actually made a watch! It wasn’t perfect, of course. There were a few imperfections here and there. But you know what? I was pretty darn proud of myself. It actually told the time! I did a little happy dance right there in my workshop. I had done it – I had remade a Patek Philippe Gondolo, well, sort of.
The Result
In the end, it was a fun project. I learned a ton about watches, and I got to challenge myself in a new way. Plus, now I have a pretty cool watch to show off. It may not be a real Patek Philippe, but it’s got a good story behind it. And isn’t that what really matters? I sure think so. Maybe I’ll try another one someday, who knows. But for now, I’m happy with my little creation. It’s a reminder that sometimes, it’s okay to take on crazy challenges, just for the fun of it.
