PP Golden Ellipse 5738R Remake Quality: Do High Quotes Mean Better Replicas?

So, I’ve been messing around with this idea for a while, and I finally decided to just go for it. I wanted to remake the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R, you know, that super classy watch with the simple design? Yeah, that one. I thought it would be a cool project to try and recreate something like that.

First off, I gathered all the info I could find about the 5738R. I spent hours looking at pictures, reading descriptions, basically anything I could get my hands on. I mean, this watch is made from 18k rose gold, has a sleek black dial, and follows the golden ratio – it’s a real piece of art. The more I learned, the more I realized how much detail goes into even a “simple” two-hand watch.

  • Started by sketching out the design. I’m no artist, but I tried my best to capture the proportions and that elegant elliptical shape.
  • Then, I moved on to the digital side of things. I dabbled with some 3D modeling software, which was a whole new world for me. Figuring out how to translate my rough sketches into a digital model was tough, to say the least. Lots of trial and error, lots of watching tutorials, and definitely lots of frustration.
  • Chose the materials, at least digitally. I went with a rose gold color for the case and a deep black for the dial, just like the original. Played around with different textures and finishes to see what looked best.
  • The hands were tricky. They’re so thin and delicate on the real watch, so I spent a good amount of time trying to get them just right. It’s those little details that really make a difference.
  • Finally, after what felt like forever, I rendered the final images. Seeing it all come together was pretty awesome, not gonna lie.

It’s not perfect, and it’s definitely not the same as owning a real Patek Philippe, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It was a fun challenge, and I learned a ton along the way. Maybe I’ll try to remake another watch sometime, who knows?
