Today, I tried my hand at remaking a Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100R-010. It was something I’d been wanting to try for a while, so I figured, why not give it a go?
I started by gathering all the information I could find about this watch. I browsed through online stores and websites that sell these kinds of luxury watches. I noticed that this particular model, the 7042/100R-010, is pretty popular. It’s got this art deco vibe with a rectangular shape. Seems like a lot of folks are into it.
The first thing I did was get my hands on some reference images. I needed to see this watch from every possible angle. So, I looked at pictures from online stores, trying to get a feel for the size, the shape, and the overall design. It’s a 31mm watch, which is smaller than I thought. And it’s manual winding, which is a nice touch, I’d say.
- Gathered reference images: I spent a good chunk of time just looking at pictures of the watch. Needed to really understand what I was dealing with.
- Noted the details: I paid close attention to things like the diamond dial and the overall shape. The rectangular design is a big part of what makes this watch stand out.
Next, I started thinking about how I would actually make this thing. I’m not a watchmaker, mind you, but I do enjoy tinkering with things. I figured I could try to recreate the look of the watch using some basic materials.
Breaking Down the Process
I decided to start with the watch face. I found a piece of cardboard and cut it into a rectangle, trying to match the size of the original watch. Then I tried to mimic the diamond dial using some glitter and glue. It didn’t look exactly the same, but it gave a similar sparkly effect.
For the watch body, I used some modeling clay. I shaped it into a rectangle and tried to make it as smooth as possible. It was a bit tricky to get the proportions right, but I think I managed to get a decent result in the end.
- Created the watch face: Cardboard and glitter. Not the most luxurious materials, but they did the trick.
- Molded the watch body: Modeling clay was my friend here. Took some time to get it right, but it worked out.
After that, I tried to add some details. I used a thin marker to draw the Patek Philippe logo on the watch face. I also added some small beads to represent the hour markers. It wasn’t perfect, but it added a bit more realism to the remake.
In the end, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It wasn’t an exact replica, of course, but it captured the essence of the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100R-010. It was a fun project, and it gave me a new appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into making these luxury watches.
It was a good day of crafting and learning. Definitely a different experience than my usual routine, but that’s what made it fun. Who knows what I’ll try to remake next? Maybe a spaceship? Just kidding, or am I?
