Hey everyone, so I’ve been on this kick lately, trying to recreate some classic timepieces. Today, I wanna share my journey of remaking the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001. It’s a beauty, really, with its rose gold and those sparkling diamonds.
First thing I did was study the heck out of the original. The Gondolo 7041R, it’s not just any watch. It’s got this cushion-shaped case, made of 18k rose gold, and it’s decked out with 108 diamonds. I mean, who wouldn’t be captivated? I spent days just looking at pictures, trying to get every detail right in my head.
Then came the hard part – finding the right materials. I went to all kinds of shops. I needed rose gold that had the same warm hue as the original and diamonds that could catch the light just right. It was tough, let me tell you. Bargaining, comparing, making sure I wasn’t getting ripped off – it was a whole process.
- Sourcing the Case Material: This took some serious legwork. I needed that 18k rose gold, but not just any rose gold. It had to be perfect.
- Finding the Diamonds: Oh boy, the diamonds. I learned more about clarity and cut than I ever thought I would. Finding 108 of them, each about 0.31 ct, that matched the original’s sparkle? That was a mission.
- Dial:The original has an evenly spaced printing.I spent a lot of time to get it.
Once I had the materials, I started putting the watch together. Now, I’m no professional watchmaker, so this was a real test. Putting the case together, setting the diamonds, making sure everything was aligned – it was nerve-wracking. I remember messing up a couple of times and having to start over. There were moments of frustration, I won’t lie.
But then, slowly but surely, it started to come together. I remember the feeling when I finally set the last diamond. It was like, “Wow, I did that.” The watch looked stunning. It wasn’t an exact replica, of course, but it had the same vibe, that same classic elegance.
This whole experience taught me a lot about patience and the value of craftsmanship. It’s one thing to admire these watches from afar, but it’s a whole other thing to try and recreate one. It’s made me appreciate the originals even more.
