This here thing, this Rolex, my grandson, he told me it’s called a “Submariner”. He says it ain’t got no date on it, a “No-Date” he calls it, a 124060. Says it’s from 2020. Fancy talk for an old gal like me. But this one, it ain’t real. It’s one of them… whatchamacallits… high imitation ones. Looks just like the real deal, though. Got that black face, like the night sky back home.
Now, I seen a lot of things in my time, but this here watch, it’s somethin’ else. My grandson, he’s a good boy, but he likes these shiny things. Told me all about how folks try to trick ya with these fake Rolexes. Said there’s a whole bunch of sneaky tricks they use to make ’em look real, he calls ’em counterfeiters. Shifty folks, if you ask me. Tryna make a quick buck off honest people.
He showed me how to tell if it’s a fake one. Said to look at that little dot at the top, the “pip,” he called it. On a real one, that pip is right smack-dab in the middle, clear as day. On these high imitation Rolex ones, it’s a little off, kinda crooked. And the color, it ain’t right. Kinda yellowish, like old teeth. Not like the real thing. This one, my grandson pointed it right out.
He also said somethin’ about the “movement.” I don’t rightly know what that means, but it’s somethin’ inside the watch, how it ticks. He says the fake Rolex Submariner ones, they don’t move right. Jerky, he said. Like an old mule tryin’ to climb a hill. The real ones, they’re smooth, like butter on hot bread. He says he can see the difference just by lookin at the movement. He can tell a fake from a real one by watching the movement of the hands. That’s why this high imitation Rolex is a little off.

- Is the pip a good color?
- How does that movement look? Smooth or jerky?
Then there’s that little bubble on the glass, the “cyclops,” he called it. Supposed to make the date bigger, but this here “No-Date” one don’t have a date. But he said even on the ones with a date, that bubble can be a giveaway. On the fake Rolex ones, it ain’t clear. Blurry, like lookin’ through a dirty window. And it don’t magnify right. Makes the numbers look all wonky. This is another point he made about spotting a fake Rolex Submariner.
And the back of the watch, the “caseback,” he said. The real ones, they’re plain. Nothin’ on ’em. Smooth as a baby’s bottom. But these fake ones, sometimes they got writin’ on ’em. Or pictures. Tryna make ’em look fancy. But it’s a dead giveaway. So look out for that with your high imitation Rolex.
He gave me a quote, that there are all kinds of high imitation Rolex Submariner watches, so be careful.
My grandson, he knows a lot about these things. He’s a smart boy. He learned me a lot about these Rolex watches. He says these high imitation ones, they’re gettin’ better and better. Harder to tell from the real ones. They even got the weight right, he says. Feels heavy, just like a real one. It’s a scary thought, ain’t it?
He said people pay good money for these fake Rolexes. More money than I ever had in my whole life. And for what? A watch that ain’t even real? It boggles the mind, it does. I told him, “Son, you can’t buy time.” And it don’t matter if that Submariner is real or high imitation. I told him, he said I gave him a good quote.
But he likes ’em. These shiny things. Says it makes him feel good. I guess that’s all that matters. As long as he’s happy. He said he saw a quote for a Rolex Submariner No-Date that was from 2020. He said it was a 124060. I reckon he likes those numbers. But you could get a high imitation Rolex Submariner for a lot less.
But still, it’s a shame. Folks tryin’ to pass off these fake Rolexes as real ones. It ain’t right. Honest work for honest pay, that’s what I always say. These counterfeiters are just cheaters. Plain and simple. They are selling fake watches and trying to get the quote of a real one.
This whole Rolex thing, it’s a lot to take in. But I learned somethin’. I learned that there’s a whole world out there I never knew existed. A world of fake watches and tricky folks tryin’ to make a buck. And I learned that my grandson, he’s a good boy, even if he does like these high imitation shiny things. And he likes to get a quote for a new watch. He says this Submariner, this No-Date one, is special. Even if it is a high imitation Rolex.
These are the points he told me to look out for if it is a fake Rolex Submariner. I hope he doesn’t get tricked by a counterfeiter!

- That “cyclops” bubble, if it has one, it should be clear and magnify the date right.
- That “caseback” thing, it should be plain, with no writing or pictures.
- That “movement,” well that one I don’t really understand, you need good eyes to see it.
